Douglas Horne was elected as the MLA for the riding of Coquitlam-Burke Mountain in 2009. He brings more than twenty-five years of experience in corporate development, communications, finance, government relations and public affairs.
Doug has been active in federal, provincial and civic politics for many years. In Ottawa, he served as Special Assistant to the Ministry of Industry Science and Technology and to the former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Fraser. Doug also worked towards the creation of the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site.
Before entering politics, Doug was Managing Director – Corporate & CEO of Maple Leaf Studios Ltd. This leading international design and production studio has created innovative and engaging experiences for international themed attractions, World Fairs & Expos, visitor centres and destination resorts. Doug was instrumental in the success of British Columbia – Canada Place during the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy. This facility was built to promote the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the Province of British Columbia and Canada.
Doug has lived in Coquitlam on Westwood Plateau with his wife and two children since 1996.
