Honourable Members:

I have the honour to present herewith the First Report of the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services for the Fourth Session of the Thirty-eighth Parliament.

At its organizational meeting on March 5, 2008, the Committee considered a request from the Information and Privacy Commissioner for supplementary funding in the amount of $75,000 to meet unanticipated costs of legal proceedings and matters involving his office during the current fiscal year. The Committee has been advised by the Ministry of Finance that the existing contingency vote for this fiscal year is able to fund this request.

After due consideration, the Committee endorsed the application of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for an additional $75,000 for fiscal year 2007/08 to defray the costs incurred by his office with respect to legal proceedings.
